Illustration (1916) by Frank C. Papé from The Russian Story Book [by Richard Wilson]. Those colours! The tree looks alive. And the little red mushrooms. The book came out during the First World War (1914-18). A welcome read, I’m sure.
Regular viewers of this blog will know that I’m quite a fan of Frank Papé, for me his work has a special, magical quality. Papé’s first known work, for E. Clement’s Naughty Eric, published in 1902 – is ultra-rare, but can be found in The British Library.
